139 Films will be screened from over 77 countries at the 78th Golden Globe Awards 2021 for the Best Foreign Film category at Los Angeles. The screenings will take place from January 2021 while the awards ceremony will be on March 1st 2021. Due to pandemic, even DOTT (Direct to OTT) films were also considered eligible.
From which 10 Indian Films and two deserving Tamil Films of Suriya's Soorarai Pottru and Dhanush's Asuran will be screened at Golden Globes Awards 2021.
Soorarai Pottru
Soorarai Pottru will be one of the first Direct OTT release films to gain entry into the prestigious awards. Directed by Sudha Kongara starring Suriya and Aparna Balamurali and follows the story of a common man with the big dream of launching a low-cost airline in the 1990s. The film received a thunderous response from the audience and critics alike. In fact, many celebs from the industry declared it as the movie of the year. GV Prakash composed music for the film.

Asuran
Worth a Look
Dhanush’s Asuran was one of the biggest Tamil hits of 2019 and it managed to earn pretty well at the box office. The film was praised for the story and performance of the actors. Dhanush playing the lead with Malayalam actor Manju Warrier making her debut in the Tamil film industry as the heroine. A revenge drama based on Poomani’s Tamil novel Vekkai, the film’s story is about the fight of an oppressed community against those oppressing them. In this film also music composed by GV Prakash.
The film is now being remade in Telugu as Narappa, with Venkatesh and Priyamani. Asuran has also been selected to feature for Indian Panorama in Indian International Film Festival at Goa.

Apart from these India’s official entry to the Oscars, Malayalam film Jallikattu directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery will also be screened at the Golden Globes. Other Indian films that won nominations are Tanhaji, Ludo, The Disciple, Eeb Allay Ooo!, Harami, Trees Under the Sun and Just Like That.
